About Louth Interskill

Louth Interskill began life as a sheltered workshop that was set up through social services 22 years ago. They provided work placements for students with learning and behavioural difficulties in woodwork, concreting and screen‐printing as a route to full‐time employment.

For a long time the workshop was very successful until a change in government policy led to a loss of funding and Louth Interskill was shut down.

However in September 2007 Louth Interskill was reopened by Malcolm Mundy and Darren Drury on the back of 2 things:
1. A government initiative which gave parents / guardians of students the power to choose how the student could best be helped and who would provide that help.
2. A genuine desire to help students – really help them – by providing a better service than they’d ever had before.

So Malcolm’s nephew (Darren Drury) purchased most of the equipment from the previous workshop and Louth Interskill was up and running again as a not-for-profit organisation but with a difference. This time it would be owned and managed privately by working with the students and parents to get direct payments from their individual budgets. And (as they say) the rest is history.

7 students joined instantly and we’ve been adding students ever since! Today we’re helping in excess of 25 students. In January 2010, we relocated to larger premises which have enabled us to both increase the number of places available for students and to expand their activities.

As a result we have opportunities to help a couple more students immediately and a dozen more over the next few months.
Since re‐opening not only have we steadily increased the number of students we support but we have also been very successful at generating new business. We’re selling more of our products (aka our Wooden Wonders) than ever.

Our customers tell us that they buy from us because we provide good quality products, at sensible prices and that all the work is carried out with a smile on our faces. And the fact that when buying from us they’re also helping train our students, many customers discover and enjoy a ‘feel good’ factor as part of their experience.
